“Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.” 1 Pet 1:17

Sojourners : Preteens Camp 2019

Summer Camp this year for the preteens from our different congregations was based around the theme of being sojourners and pilgrims, following after God as they make their way through life towards a better city. Altogether there were over 60 campers. For 3 days, they spent their nights sleeping in tents in a simulation of the Israelites’ sojourn in the wilderness.

Following in the footsteps of GoKids, their days were packed with sensory fun and creative learning. Each day, like Israel in the desert, they collected manna from the ground. Each day, and night, like Israel in the desert, the pillars of cloud and fire (skillfully enacted by our helpers) directed the campers’ time in place of a scheduled program. Every group was responsible for cooking their own meals and washing up afterwards. This alternative framework for a camp brought home the message of listening out for, relying upon, and following the Father, our whole lives.

In our worship times, we continued to see the very special ways that the Holy Spirit released young people to exercise spiritual gifts in greater and greater freedom. Some prophesied for the first time, one danced in the Spirit, and others were healed in response to the Holy Spirit.

We are so encouraged to have spent this time with these campers, a generation of our kids who at a young age are already encountering the Father and His never-ending goodness.
