Isa 9:6: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

GoKids Christmas

We invited all of the families who have come to GoKids to come to a special Christmas celebration. Over the course of 2 days and 8 sessions, each 1-hour long, we celebrated with around 300 families, telling the story of how “A Child was Born”.

The theme of the party was a mini art gallery for kids. Upon arrival, the kids were able to choose one of 3 Christmas crafts to make – a Christmas card, a Christmas bauble, or a Christmas light jar. After completing their craft, the children were invited to make a balloon stuck with double-sided tape, to take into a confetti room filled with glittering confetti blown aloft by fans. With the balloon as a symbol of their own lives, each child was encouraged to see their life as being both a gift from God, and also rich in gifts of colour and beauty.

Consolidating the idea of gifts and giving, was the performance of a shadow dance, based on the story outlined in the song “Mary, Did You Know?”. It brought many parents to tears as they watched the life of Jesus, God’s gift to the world, unfolding and finally ending on the cross.

After each of the sessions, the one thing that parents reported over and over, was that the presence and peace of God was palpable. All the kids were comfortable and safe, and all the parents said their children loved playing here.

Many people wanted to join our various congregations after coming to the GoKids party, some of whom were non-believers. Some single parents who came reported being very lonely, and finding out that we meet regularly, asked to join us. Among those who came was a mom who 2 years ago at Jubilee had reversed her decision to abort her baby. Coming to the party helped her to return to Jesus. It is our hope that we will offer the comfort and hope of Jesus to these parents.
