Luke 10:27: And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself"

Summer English Camp

Last week we had 50 local kids and their parents with us every morning for an English summer camp. These kids are pretty much the poorest in Hong Kong: most of them live in a cramped single room and are often falling behind at school. The kids learnt English through art, music and storytelling while their parents relaxed with coffee and biscuits as we sat in groups and talked about how to love and discipline our children.

There was also time for the parents to do some art – most of them for the first time in their lives – as well as worship and listen to some stories about Jesus. Eight of the parents came to believe in Jesus and throughout the week there were some really wonderful stories of breakthroughs in their relationships with their children. As we continue to meet up with these families at Arts in the Community on Saturdays, and at other times, we are expectant that our community in this area will experience the gospel of the kingdom in real and practical ways.

One of the topics we discussed with the parents during the camp was how to design the home-space to enable them to have healthy sleeping, eating and studying arrangements. We are offering to help these families to do just that with the space that they are currently in. It will be a resource-intensive project, but we know that we need to be good neighbours to these families and so, if you are a regular member of any of our home groups and would like to contribute your time, skill, sponsorship, or all three, we anticipate needing help with:

  • Interior and other design
  • Furniture assembly
  • Painting
  • Cleaning
  • Sponsoring a piece of furniture [bed, sofa, cabinet, fridge, fan etc].

If you are able to help, please contact Grace or Cindy in the first instance, especially in regard to donation of items as we are unable to hold unsolicited items at the factory.
