"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." - Luke 2:10

Christmas Outreach in Sham Shui Po

Early in December we laid plans for decorating our factory space for the slew of Christmas celebrations that we knew would take place there over the season. Over 2 days of constant activity with a small army of volunteers, we completed the work just in time for our first party – the Arts in the Community Family Party.

Arts in Community

Families who come regularly, as well as those we met in nearby parks recently, turned up for a morning of art and craft fun, the Christmas story, worship and a sumptuous Christmas lunch. We had the pleasure of meeting and greeting many non-Chinese families from the area for the first time and hope to get to know them better.

Sham Shui Po Elderly

The elderly who live in the area have been friends with us for a while. They come from a wide spectrum of economic situations, but we have found that friendship and food are always welcome with our Sham Shui Po grannies. So it was with much joy that we sat down with our elderly friends to some family time; a 3-course meal with stories, games, worship and prayer, and a bag of Christmas goodies.

Caroling

Not all the Christmas fun was had indoors. Over 4 nights, we once again traversed the tenements that constitute our local neighborhood community, singing carols and knocking on doors to invite our neighbours to a Christmas party. The tenements are home to a large cross-section of the poor in Hong Kong. Newly arrived migrants, asylum seekers, the elderly poor, single parent families – all find their home in Sham Shui Po.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve saw our factory space filled to the brim as we welcomed friend and stranger alike to our party. In anticipation of Muslim and Hindu friends joining us in our celebration, we had prepared special meals, and we were not disappointed! Party-goers were treated to a traditional Christmas turkey meal, a re-telling of the Christmas story, and a fully-fledged authentic Christmas Choir.
